Very Useful Plumbing Tips My Plumber Friend Told Me To Share

The Best Plumbing Tips My Friend Listed Off

Below I’m including plumbing tips that are too awesome not to share. My friend’s a plumber and if I ever have an issue with my plumbing, and if he’s in town he helps me out. He moved away to Sandy Springs, Georgia but I see him during the holidays when he comes back to visit his folks.

Plumbing Tips To Live By

The first thing he ever told me which I thought was amazing instead of checking online reviews if you need suggestions of a good plumber to use just to call a plumbing supply store. He told me plumbing supply stores deal with plumbers all day long and after years of working with the same plumbers they know which ones are the best ones to use, so asking a plumbing supply store is my number one tip if you want to find the best possible plumber.

Don’t Flush Tampons Down The Toilet

Don’t let your wife flush tampons or even wipes down the toilet. These don’t break down the same way toilet paper does and eventually the tampons clog your drains leading to huge problems. My wife used to flush her tampons down the toilet without me even knowing about it or realizing it. Unfortunately my friend wasn’t in town at the time so I had to call a local plumbing company to deal with the situation that really sucked!

Putting Grease Down Your Kitchen Sink Is Something You Never Do

Another big tip is don’t flush cooking grease down the drain because it will clog your drains and lead to a huge problem as well. Pouring any type of grease and oil down the drain is a big no-no. What you have to do is clean the pan with paper towels and throw the paper towels in the garbage. What happens is the grease becomes rock hard and then you need to get a plumber to remove it. This has never happened to me but my friend like I said is a plumber and he’s told me all these different scenarios that involve him having to clean out drains because people have poured grease down them.

Main Shutoff To Stop Flooding

It’s always good to know how your plumbing works and this includes knowing where the main switch to turn off your water is. This way if there is a pipe bursting in your house you can turn off quickly instead of calling up the plumber and waiting for him to arrive 30 minutes later while your house is flooding.

Clean The Hair In Your Shower & Bath Tub

Another tip is clean out the drains in your tubs and in your showers. Specifically if you have women in your family with long hair these can clog up your drains, or at the very least slow the draining of water in your tub or shower down significantly. Cleaning them and removing the hair every now and then well keep your drains flowing fast.

 Never Use Drain Cleaners

By using those strong drain cleaners you realize that the reason they work so well is they are full of corrosive chemicals that not only dissolve anything in your drains but eventually will dissolve your drains. They destroy your drain system. There are much better methods to clean your drains one method he talked about was using cup of vinegar and combined it with half a cup of baking soda. What you is pour the concoction of baking soda and vinegar down the drain and leave it for about 15 to 20 minutes. After that all you need to do is pour 10 cups of boiling hot water down the drain and this will clean out your drains the same as using corrosive drain cleaners.
